Baffled by all the pieces? Then read this guide; I have tried to make it as simple as possible.
1. Start by putting the ligature (circular ring, usually metal, with screws for tightening) on the mouthpiece like in this picture: 2. Next slide the reed (flat piece of wood) under the ligature, make sure it is straight and line the thin, curved edge of it up with the tip of the mouthpiece.
3. Now put the sling (the strap) over your head and attach the main body of the saxophone to it via a small ring you will find about half way down the saxophone.
4. Slide the crook into the hole in the top and tighten the screw (not very tight, but enough to hold the crook in place).
5. Lastly, screw the mouthpiece onto the cork on the crook and away you go. The assembled saxophone should look something like this:
